Parent Testimonials About Financial Aid
"I never thought that I would be faced with the decision of whether or not my daughter would be able to attend college. In June 2008, I divorced as the economy entered into a recession. Even though Sara had always been a “college-bound” student, her father would not pay for college expenses. Sara almost did not apply to a Virginia private college where she was a legacy because she thought the costs would be prohibitive. Much to our surprise Sara was awarded scholarship assistance that provided 100% of our financial need. Without the generosity of the scholarship programs, Sara would not have been able to attend the college of her choice.
Many college-bound students are unaware of the scholarship and financial aid possibilities that are available. A private college should not be ignored simply due to its “price tag”. Total costs are certainly an important consideration, but apply to the schools of your choice, both public and private, and allow them the opportunity to show what they can do for you. You may be surprised as to how “affordable” a Virginia private college can be.
"When looking at colleges with our daughter, it was very overwhelming. Neither of us – her dad nor I – had completed a 4-year college program. We were really concerned with finances, knowing that her brother was 2 years to follow, and her sister in 4 years. There just seemed to be no way a private school was possible. The opposite was true – the private college offered just as much or more financial aid as the state schools. Virginia private colleges took an interest not just in who our daughter was, but what we needed to help her attend and be successful. Unbelievable
