Counselors play an important role as students sort through the many options for college. Here are four ways to use our website to identify the best options. Consider sharing these with your students and families.
1. Research the advantages.
- Learn more about how smaller class sizes and opportunities to work closely with faculty creates a high-quality experience that contributes to student success.
- Learn about our numerous opportunities to get involved, whether the student is interested in student government, campus publications, performing arts, athletics or community service.
- Learn about work experiences, international studies, and research opportunities gained through our colleges, and how employers increasingly see the value of a liberal arts education.
2. Learn more information.
- View an overview of each institution as well as admission information, lists of academic and athletic programs and other important information.
- Quickly and easily search for a college match based on some general criteria including campus setting, academic programs, athletics programs, and more.
3. Visit a campus.
- Encourage students to visit the schools of their choice and take part in Virginia Private College Week.
- Participate in a counselor tour and visit Virginia private college yourself to learn more.
4. Get the facts.
- Find out just how affordable Virginia private colleges can be.
- Utilize Financial Aid 101 to detail the various forms of financial assistance and how they can reduce the actual cost of attending a Virginia private college.
- Learn the facts about Virginia private colleges, and help dispel myths about their affordability, access, financial aid, diversity and more.
Do Virginia private colleges offer counselor tours?
Virginia is fortunate to have such a wealth of private colleges, but it is hard to tour them all at once. We divide the Commonwealth into three regions and host a tour in each of them on a rotating basis annually.
During our Counselor Tour, counselors will travel to each campus, tour, meet with faculty, administrators, and admission directors for firsthand individual contact and information that previous participants have found incredibly valuable.
A registration fee and your travel costs to and from the tour kick-off point will be your only expenses. Meals and hotel lodging are provided.
